Programs

Manitoba Alpine Ski Division offers a variety of programs for athletes of all ages. The role of the Manitoba Alpine Ski is to develop and organize the sport of alpine skiing in Manitoba. Representing ski clubs throughout the entire Province, Manitoba Alpine coordinates skiing development and racing programs.

Nancy Greene Ski League

For children between the ages of 6 and 11, the Nancy Greene Ski League program is an excellent beginning to the world of ski racing.

The Nancy Greene Ski League (NGSL) is a national program, used by all ski divisions in Canada, aimed at all entry levels ski racers, for the introduction of basic ski and ski racing skills.  The program is offered to children aged 6 to 11 years old.

The goal is to develop skiing skills in a non-competitive environment.  Athletes compete as part of a club team.  Teams are of mixed age, gender, and ability.

Through games, exercise, and technical free skiing, the children develop skiing skills in a natural and relaxed manner.  The racing component of the Nancy Greene Ski League is important, but the competition is only used as a learning tool.  Racers compete as a team to win. The emphasis is on skill development, team building, and fun, with three/four races scheduled per season.

Mars Manitoba Alpine Ski Series

For skiers over the age of 11, the MARS Manitoba Alpine Ski Series (MASS) will introduce them to the competitive side of the sport and help them further their skiing skills. It serves both older entry-level ski racers and Nancy Green Ski League graduates, and provides an introduction to higher level ski racing.

The MARS Manitoba Alpine Ski Series (MASS) is a national program, sanctioned by Alpine Canada Alpine, offered to ski racers 11 years of age and older.

Athletes are involved in a dry land training program starting in the summer. Primary aims are skill development and training in an elite setting. Most clubs offer Fall, Christmas, and other out-of-province camps for further training.

Racers in the MASS program are required to obtain a National Competitor Card which allows them the opportunity to compete in other National races in and out-of-province. The race series consists of five race weekends at ski hills across the province. The athletes race in Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G disciplines.

Among the life skills each young racer can learn are the benefits of goal setting, positive lifestyle choice, fair play, self confidence, healthy competition, enjoyment, participation in a positive setting and planned skill development help the athletes succeed.

Manitoba Masters Alpine Ski Series

Older athletes over the age of 18 can qualify for the Manitoba Masters Alpine Ski Series  This series is geared for skiers of all ranges of ability and experience over the age of eighteen.  Manitoba Master Alpine Ski Series is an alpine ski racing/snowboarding series that attracts keen competitive racers and at the same time offers enjoyment to the recreational skier.
